What’s your favorite piece of drum gear?

My favorite piece of gear is my DW Collector Series drums.

Best drum track of all time (in your humble opinion)?
AJA by Steely Dan with Steve Gadd on drums.

Why the drums?
“The drummer stop coming to church, so I got on the drums…”

Gerald was able to build a strong musical foundation at church. When the opportunity to play at church became available it allowed him strengthen his chops because he’d perform weekly or more with an audience. Gerald is known by many as one of the “Godfathers” of gospel and R&B drumming, though he is very diverse and has crossed over into many genres including pop.

What are you working on now?
“I am getting ready for tour with Chris brown.”

Chris Brown’s One Hell of a Nite Tour with Kid Ink, Omarion, Fetty Wap and Teyana Taylor as special guests launches Aug. 12. It will hit 25 cities across the U.S., including Chicago, Detroit, Boston, and Atlanta, before wrapping in Concord, Calif., at the Concord Pavilion on Sept. 19. Full tour dates below.

What are your words of wisdom for drummers just starting out?
To all the young drummers, remember that all of us need to stick together. Artists can come and go, but we’re still here.
